Matt Smith discusses his feelings on Chris Chibnall as new Doctor Who showrunner
Matt Smith is widely loved for his tenure in the role of Doctor Who. His spell as the famous TV time traveller was seen as a change of pace from his predecessors and was the first step into the franchise for a whole new generation of fans. He also happened to be the Doctor who (haha) Steven Moffat wrote for. Now he’s given his opinion on the incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall.
Speaking while on promotion for his current film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Digital Spy asked what he expected from the newly appointed showrunner. The Eleventh Doctor told them;
“That’s a huge question. I don’t know him that well but I think he’s a brilliant writer, I think he understands the show, the history of the show, the legacy. I think he writes the Doctor really brilliantly, which is important. I think he’ll have a really good interesting grand plan and you know, I can’t wait to see what they’ll do. I’m one hundred per cent behind him.”
It’s nice to hear that the former stars of the show are open to giving him a chance. Chibnall enters a role which is considered by many to be one of the hardest in TV, with over 50 years of lore and story behind the show.
Doctor Who is currently set to return for a Christmas special in late 2016.
