It’s been a long and sad road for fans of Daniel Bryan. We held out hope for the longest time that Daniel Bryan might make his return to the WWE ring. Now though we know that the dream is over and that the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has been forced to retire from pro wrestling.

Originally planned to be announced this evening on WWE Raw, the superstar took to Twitter to announce it to his fans personally. In a Tweet he stated;

This is incredibly sad news for WWE fans – many of whom believed he could stage a comeback in the ring. He was forced to relinquish the Intercontinental Championship in 2015 as a result of this injury.

There is always the slight hope this is a storyline but I genuinely doubt it. The lack of pomp from WWE’s website suggests they’re not treating this as entertainment. If it is we’ll update.
